The Olympics are a good example of how national pride can cause one group of people to feel superior to other nations. In the Greco-Roman world those outside of the roman empire were considered Barbarians and uncivilized. Israel took pride in the fact that they were the people of God and therefore better than the gentiles (non-Jews). Jesus is the great equalizer. It is his gospel that unites people from every tribe and nation.
