The Marks of a True Church
Time: Evening
Texts: 1 Corinthians 14:40, 1 Corinthians 2:1–5, 1 Corinthians 11:20–26, 1 Corinthians 5:9–13, Belgic Confession: Article 29
What are the marks that distinguish a true church in a world of blurred lines? In this sermon, we explore the Belgic Confession's Article 29 alongside Paul's letter to the Corinthian church to learn about the essential characteristics that define a faithful church: the pure preaching of the gospel, the proper administration of the sacraments, and the practice of discipline. Despite their imperfections, true churches, like the church in Corinth, are still sanctified by Christ. This message calls us to cherish these marks, live by them, and discern them with grace and charity.
